An opportunity to present as a keynote speaker at the upcoming Navigating the Complexities of Disability Housing

Housing for people with disabilities is a subject close to my heart. Living as independently as possible is a life long goal for me, as it is for many people living with disabilities. In February this year, I heard about the Navigating the Complexities of Disability Housing Conference in Sydney , May 29th to 30th, a conference focused on the Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) provisions under the NDIS. Hoping to attend, I sent an Email and asked if there was any funding available to assist.

After seeing my website, the organisers invited me to be a keynote speaker, and arranged a special “post budget” funding package covering air fares and registration fees. While extremely generous, it unfortunately won’t cover the other significant expenses I will incur, including accommodation and meals for both myself and my support worker, as well as wages. My support worker has volunteered to do half the hours pro bono to assist.

To this end, I have set up a “Go Fund Me” campaign in an effort to make up the short fall. In just a few days, I have raised over $300, but I still have a way to go to reach my target of $2200. To me, it is so important that the end user has input to events such as these. I am so grateful to the organisers for recognising this and offering me a prominent position at the conference with such short notice and their own budget limitations. And I am very determined to make this appointment.

If anyone would like to support me in this endeavour, please head on over to my Go Fund Me page

I’ll be sure to publish my transcript of this presentation on this site after the conference.
